Vapor Barrier

A crawl space vapor barrier, when installed properly, will cover the ground 100 percent. It will prevent moisture from rising up from the ground and reaching the insulation and subfloor. The vapor barrier provides a strong base level of moisture protection that every new home is required to have, and that every old home needs. New building code requires plastic to be at least 6 mil thick and covering 100 percent of the ground. We partner with local distributors and have access to a variety of brands and thicknesses from 6 mil to 20 mil.

Sealed Crawl Space

Sealing a crawl space prevents moisture on all fronts. The ground, foundation walls and vents are sealed off. Sealing a crawl space is the act of extending the vapor barrier from the ground to the walls and piers. Every seam will be taped and all vents will be insulated and sealed off. It is recommended that a dehumidifier is installed during this process to regulate humidity and moisture, and to reduce the possibility of mold growth and wood rot within the crawl space. Fiber glass insulation is secured between the floor joists with metal wires.

Full Encapsulation

A full encapsulation also has the vapor barrier extending from the ground to the walls and piers as well as a dehumidifier. The difference between the full encapsulation and the sealed crawl space has to do with the placement of insulation. In the full encapsulation, the sub floors are exposed and we secure reflective foam boards to the foundation walls.

Drainage & Sump Pump

If your problem is water in your crawl space, we have the solution! We’ve found that the real problem is not the water entering your house, but staying there. To correct this issue, we dig a French drain inside the interior foundation walls and lead the water to the lowest point in the crawl space. That is where we will install our sump pump systems. We use the quietest pumps on the market, so don’t worry about any excess noise.

Microbial-Growth-1.jpg

Microbial Growth Treatment

Microbial growth in your crawl space is caused by the presence of high humidity, moisture and water. These conditions allow this unwanted and hazardous allergen to thrive. The EPA estimates that 60 percent of all air on the first floor comes directly from the crawl space. Let Carolina Crawl Space Services correct this issue!

Botanical Based Power Mist - We have achieved a cost effective option for eliminating odors and killing microbial growth without cutting corners. The botanical based power fog treatment hits every corner of the crawl space with an EPA approved solution. This treatment will kill microbial growth and air borne spores, on contact.
